Great Galloping Grindleford Gourmets!

As you will no doubt be aware from the posters around the village our PTA is trying to put together a Grindleford Primary School Cookbook. We are all very excited about this as I know there are lots of great chefs already in school who are just bursting with recipe creations.

The idea is to gather lots of ‘traditional’ family recipes (you know the ones passed down from Great Granny Ethel that always gets made on the third Sunday before Christmas?!!! – doesn’t every family have these weird and wonderful traditions like this?!), Gallop tray bake favourites, cakes, main teas, deserts and even ideas for the world’s best packed lunch for school. We are hoping to produce a cookbook that becomes the most used book in your kitchens.

If you would like to take part, then just click on the PTA tab on the top menu bar of the website and click on ‘Cookbook’ from the drop down menu. This will open up a form where you can just type you recipe in. Alternatively you can email your culinary delights to grindleford.cookbook@gmail.com along with any illustrations or pictures you may have taken of your creations!

Traversing Artists!

At last our traversing wall is complete and we have been given the go ahead to use it! Year 6 went on first as they have been fundraising for the PTA for the longest amount of time – seemed the fairest way to me! The rest of the school will be following a rolling programme, with everyone going on it by the end of the week. Our Traversing Club will begin this Wednesday after school – can’t wait!

It is only through your hard work and commitment that the school can afford to have such fantastic facilities for the children to use and enjoy. Pond Progress Towards Perfection!

The work on the new pond area is coming along at high-speed! We never realised how much space was available hidden behind all the greenery.

The stepping-stones are being put in as we speak, alongside some lovely benches. Don’t worry, the frogs are still quite happily lurking beneath the duck weed!

The pond will be officially opened on the evening on Monday 2nd July, please come along and bring a picnic!

What an Exciting Start to the Day!

How excited are we today? First thing this morning the door bell bing bonged and standing on the threshold was Mr Richard Osborne from the company Wall Climber to begin work on putting in our traversing wall!

We weren’t expecting the traversing wall to be created until during half term, so we can hardly contain our delight at being able to use it two weeks early. It should be finished tomorrow, just in time for the pond work to begin.

We are hoping to start a Traversing Club next Wednesday, so please watch out for further details.

Chess Champion

The Chess Competition was finally completed this week. Slightly later than planned due to absences, trips and sunny weather, it concluded with a very narrow finish indeed. Congratulations to Benny who has retained his crown for the second year running to consolidate his position as Grindleford School Grand Master.

The top 4 have scored enough points to qualify for the regional ‘Megafinal’ and information regarding this has been sent home with them today. Applications need to be in for the 15th May if they are wanting to do it and it is feasible for them to attend on Saturday 19th May.

What an Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat!

We had a lovely day on Wednesday visiting the theatre. Firstly, we had a very interesting tour around the backstage area of the Pomegranate theatre in Chesterfield. We found out about the scenery and how it is changed; looked at the safety curtain and found that it is actually metal although it looks like fabric from the front; visited the dressing rooms and found that life is not really that glamorous backstage and even went underneath the stage to look at trap doors and the orchestra pit! This was even more interesting as we remembered the pantomime we watched at Christmas and could think about how it was put together behind the scenes.

Afterwards we crossed the road and went to The Winding Wheel theatre to watch Joseph and his Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. For a lot of us this was the first time we had watched a musical that didn’t have any speaking in it at all. The production was extremely good and well worth visiting. A massive thank you and congratulations must go to all the children for their superb behaviour and attitude throughout the whole trip. We received lots of well deserved positive comments from the other members of the audience who were sitting near to us. It is always lovely to hear other people confirm what we already know – that our children are a credit to the school and yourselves. We are very proud of them! Thank you to all the staff, Mrs Condron and Mr Blowen for giving up their time to accompany the trip.
