I had one of those moments today that will stay with me for a long time. It was a feeling… an almost parental-like feeling created by the efforts and achievements of the children. One word – pride.
I took six of the best to the Hope Valley Cluster 6-a-side football tournament at Bamford this afternoon to compete against three other schools. They did extremely well in the group stage, topping Group B with 10 points made by three wins and a draw (against a very good Bamford A team). A narrow 1-0 victory against Bamford B in the semi put them into the final against Hathersage A.
It was a gruelling 15 minute game, and the afternoon had taken its toll on both teams, but they rose to the occasion and played their socks off. Even a high tackle to Joe and very hard ball in the face for Benny didn’t knock their attitude and they played superbly. Unfortunately, they suffered their first defeat of the day to a very good Hathersage side. Finishing runners up for the second year running is an amazing achievement, and this year saw the highest points accumulated seen in my five years of going.
There were goals galore, great passing, brave goalkeeping and an overall team spirit that contributed hugely to their success.
Well done lads, you made a teacher very proud today.
