EIS Superstars

Key Stage 2 had a fantastic day at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield today.  As Jessica Ennis was training on the long track, the children took over the main track with the rest of the schools in the cluster for a series of field and track events.

The races consisted of 60m sprints, a 200m, an 800m and some 4x100m relays.  We had some winners in year 6 with Eleanor and Elliot both taking gold in the final of the 200m with terrific runs.  Emily B put on a superb finishing spurt to win bronze in her 200m final race in the last few metres.  Everyone took part in the field events consisting of high jump, long jump, javelin, shot and some fun relays.

There are some very talented athletes here, and there was lots of praise for many of our competitors.  To have the chance to visit and compete in such a venue is a wonderful opportunity, especially so in the Olympic year.  As we embark on some athletic work in PE in the run up to the summer holiday, perhaps we have some Olympic stars of the future here in Grindleford who can improve the skills over the coming weeks…

With a facility like the EIS on our “doorstep” it’s great to use it and hopefully inspire some athletes of the future? Looked like a fantastic trip out!
