Chocks Away!

flyby-039

No sooner had the ink dried on the SAT papers and the last mouthfuls of school dinners been eaten, the whole school took the short walk down to the sports field to witness some amazing history fly by.  It’s good to know that we are so close to such a famous part of aviation heritage, and sharing the sight with so many members of the village was really special.

A lone Spitfire, with its iconic outline, flew over first, shortly followed by the famous Lancaster Bomber on its way to Chatsworth.  A few minutes later, a more modern version gave us a very loud encounter too!

Squadron Leader Siddall was leading the young fliers, and asked all of our aspiring pilots to perform a quick sortie across the length of the field and back.  There were some fast jets in that display, that’s for sure.

  1. Fantastic! I wish I’d been there to see that.

  2. Hey! so it WAS the Lancaster! I heard the Spitfire and looked up to see the Lancaster flying by, about 150 ft away and at kitchen window level. Most amazing moment ever.
