En Guarde!

…and lunge!

What a brilliant day we have had!  We tried our hands at Fencing today, as part of our project to look at different sports that we may like to keep learning.

Stuart Marshall came to visit us – along with his Gold Medal and England tracksuit – and spent some time in assembly talking to us about how he got into fencing right up to winning his gold medal.  What an inspirational man!  He then took each class and taught them the basics of fencing after which they were allowed to try to attack each other!!!  Excellent fun, as I hope you can see from the pictures below.

Stuart currently runs a fencing club at Hope Valley college where two of his Y8 students have just been picked to represent the East Midlands – wow!

Due to having to pay for hire of the equipment and so on, if Stuart ran an after school club here it would cost £20 each for a maximum of 12 participants for a 6 week course.  If you would be willing to pay this and would like me to continue looking at this as an option for school, please reply below or pop into school and see me.
