Solar Panelled Dens are the Future!
In the cold, but clear sunshine on Tuesday morning the ECO committee and a couple of helpers started to work in the garden. (Unfortunately Ruby was ill, but still remembered to send in some carrier bags for us to use – thank you Ruby).
The aim of the morning was to create a sculpture that could enter a competition that Friends of the Earth are currently running. The ECO committee visited assembly last Friday to ask the children what they thought would win and got some amazing ideas back.
Morgan said to do water-colour pictures of the hills and sheep with the sun rising.
Wilf said build a den.
Alfie said make solar panels.
Lots of the other children said to do sculptures of the sun or the school building. Somebody else said to do stained glass windows, but that idea has already been used as an idea on the Friends of the Earth website. Others said to use recycled items and use our forest skills.
The ECO committee went away and decided to create a den with solar panels using our forest school skills and recycling carrier bags for the panels. The design of the panels was taken from Morgan’s idea.
The pictures below show the den in all stages of construction, complete with a well deserved hot chocolate warming up tea break! The ECO committee worked extremely hard – do you think we will win the competition?
Ella and Jessica have written a terrific PowerPoint to be sent off alongside he panels to Friends of the Earth.
