Owl-ly goings on!
What an absolutely amazing day we have had in school today!
The morning was taken up with meeting Dotty and Barney, two beautiful Barn Owls, who have been rescued and are now incredibly well looked after. Whilst learning a lot of facts about what Barn Owls eat and how they hunt, we also got to stroke them and even (if we were brave enough) have a hold too!!
This was followed by an incredible session dissecting owl pellets, delivered by members of the Derbyshire Wildlife Trust. Did you know you can pull the teeth out of a mouse that has been eaten and then regurgitated by an owl? Neither did we until today!
Lots more photos and write ups to follow.
I had the pleasure of spending the afternoon with some of Class 3 and Year 4 for a little while. We had a go at drawing Barn Owls with oil pastels on black card. I was blown away by the standard of the children’s art work, remembering how the feathers were freckled and that Dotty had a spotty tummy. Here are our fabulous finished pieces…what do you think?
