Cracking Cross Country
This afternoon a few hardy volunteers set out to tackle the Hope Valley Cross Country Competition. This takes place at Hope Valley College and involves running a very long way around their playing fields!! As a school we compete against all the other Primary and Junior schools within the Valley, as well as Litton and Great Hucklow, making a grand total of 10 schools taking part this year.
All of our runners did extremely well and I am very proud of them for not only volunteering to be part of our school team, but for also not giving up and giving it their best shot. Consequently, we gained some cracking results!
In the Y1/Y2 runs we placed at 7th, 8th and 9th in the girls and a brilliant 1st, 5th, 6th and 14th in the boys. These scores meant that as a school we were placed 2nd Team Overall. Way hey!
In the Y3/4 races we placed 15th, 23rd, 25th, 26th and 58th in the boys. The girls placed at 4th, 9th, 23rd, 24th, 40th and 43rd. Everyone ran amazingly and the 4th place in the girls was very hard fought with an amazing sprint finish.
In the Y5/6 races, due to only four children putting themselves forward to run, we couldn’t be put forward for the whole school team awards. This is a great shame as the placings for the boys were 2nd and 32nd and the girls were 3rd and 13th.
The top 10 places in Y5/6 are then chosen to represent the Hope Valley squad in the next round of competition. We have 2 representatives in the squad – how very cool is that?!
