Young Voices….Young (and old) Stars!
Our dedicated Young Voices Choir had the pleasure of being part of the ‘Young Voices 2018 Concert’ at Sheffield Arena yesterday and what a fabulous experience it was.
The children have been coming along to after school singing practice since September and had really worked hard to learn their words and all the songs. We also had to learn a lot of dance moves which were very fast and complicated for those of us of an older variety!! This hard work culminated in us arriving at the Arena yesterday for a rehearsal which lasted for over 3 hours!
Half of the Arena was filled with children from different parts of the country and very different types of school. We came together to form a massive choir of just under 5,000 people, all conducted by one man. It was amazing how David Lawrence could control the whole stadium, creating waves of music as well as complicated rounds and melodies.
During the actual performance, we were treated to performances by Beau Dermott, Sharlene Hector and the legendary Tony Hadley! How very exciting for those of us of a different era! We got to shout ‘Gold’ and everything!
Beau shot to fame at the age of 14 when Amanda Holden pressed her Golden Buzzer and sent her straight through to the live finals of Britain’s Got Talent. It was very cool for the children to hear that she too had been part of Young Voices before she followed her dreams and shot to fame.
Sharlene is the lead singer of Basement Jaxx and has sung alongside many, many, big names in the past few years, including Emeli Sande, Lalah Hathaway, Tinie Tempah, Josh Groban and Michael Buble to name but a few.
Tony Hadley was part of the 80’s band Spandau Ballet, who had a massive hit with ‘Gold’. During these times he earnt himself the accolade of being one of pop music’s greatest vocalists.
We were also put through our paces and thoroughly enjoyed dancing alongside the brilliant Urban Strides. They are an amazing dance troupe, whose own performances were slick, fast and very cool to watch.
What a brilliant evening all round! The children were fabulously behaved (as always) and a pleasure to spend time with. Thank you so much to all the parents and family members that came along to listen and support our singing. I am sure that you had as good an evening as we did! Thank you to Mrs Campbell for allowing us to use her photos from the night.
