Class 2

Class 2 is located downstairs in the main part of the school building and houses years 3 and 4. They are taught by Miss Moore. We provide the children with a range of learning experiences, encompassing learning through discovery and experience, and moving on to more formal practising of key skills. The emphasis in Class 2 is on fun and a love of learning.

Topic Work

At Grindleford we have a Creative Curriculum and teach many subjects through Topic work. As much as possible, topic learning is woven into other areas of the curriculum each half term. This helps children become emersed in their learning, make links and embed new content and vocabulary.

Homework

It is recommended that children read to an adult for 10 minutes a day at least 4 times a week. All children will be heard by an adult in school at least once a week in class 2 and as much reading at home with your child the better! Adults can help by asking the children questions about the book and talking about the story to support understanding. Once children have completed a reading book, they will be able to complete an Accelerated Reader quiz in school to show their understanding.

Children will receive a Maths and English homework book at the start of the school year. Pages to be completed will be sent out every Friday – this will be via dojo and also written in children’s reading records. They may hand their homework books in to be marked anytime before the following Friday.

Timetable Info

The timetable often changes from term to term, taking into account the specific needs of the children, scheduling of support staff, extra-curricular opportunities and whole school considerations.

PE is on Monday and Wednesday. In a half term where Forest School is on a Monday, PE will be on a Wednesday and Thursday.
