Extra Curricular

Wherever possible, our school strives to extend the opportunities for pupils. Specialist music tutors offer tuition which can take place during school hours or after school, with the instruments available for loan. A charge is made for these lessons by the individual tutor.
Specialist sports coaches visit school to help broaden our PE curriculum. School teams are entered into many local school events.  The children are also invited to take part in specialist sports clubs run after school by Hope Valley College.
Specialist language teaching takes place at lunchtimes for French.

Day and Residential Visits

The curriculum is enhanced through a wide range of day visits to local places of interest. Such visits extend the children’s understanding of the topic being studied. Visits have included Stockport Air Raid Shelters, theatre trips, whole school visits out to the Christmas Pantomime, The National Space Centre, Magna and Chester Zoo to name but a few.

In addition, the children in Years 5 and 6 take part in a residential visit. This takes place at a nearby outdoor activity centre, where they have the opportunity to try rock climbing, abseiling, night walks and river scrambles.

All of these visits support and extend academic learning and personal development and we believe that as many pupils as possible should take part in this important aspect of school life.

Risk assessments are completed for each visit and teachers carry a portable first aid kit and emergency contact numbers for each child.  In the event of an injury, first aid will be administered.  An ‘Accident Report’ form will be completed upon return to school and parents will be informed of the incident.

Eco School

We are also a Green Flag School with a very active student ECO group.  We have a firm commitment to recycling and doing our bit to save the environment.
