All About Us

We are a small village primary school, situated on a hilly site, overlooking the village of Grindleford in the beautiful Peak District.  As part of the community, we participate in village events whenever possible and use the local environment and expertise to enhance our creative curriculum.

The school has a total of 53 children on roll, enabling us to offer individual attention to every child in a caring and stimulating environment. We are full at 70 pupils.  We have a strong family atmosphere where brothers and sisters can share the same school experience, enjoying the partnership between parents, pupils, staff and governors all working together with the same aim—to provide the best education possible for every child.

Set in the centre of the village, the school has undergone substantial building work resulting in a new Early Years classroom and school office.  The children are taught in three classrooms.  All our classrooms have interactive whiteboards.  We also have a suite of ipads and Chromebooks.  The school also boasts its own working kitchen, dining room/hall, Headteacher’s office and toilet facilities.  Our recent projects include revamping the school playground and refurbishment of the school kitchen.

We have a playground which is covered in tarmac and another smaller tarmac play area.

At the bottom of the playground we have a large grassed area containing a wildlife area, willow tunnel and our  Trim Trail.  It also contains a pond area which is also an outdoor classroom space.  We have a quiet garden with wooden tables and stone seating.

The school also has the use of other village and community amenities, including the village pavilion, a large sports field and a multi-use games area.  All these amenities are linked to the school via a footpath.

The school has a dedicated Forest School site up in the local woods, which is hired in conjunction with The National Trust.  This is a fabulous area and we are so lucky to be able to use it.
