Class 2

Class 2 is located downstairs in the main part of the school building and houses years 3 and 4.  They are taught by Miss Moore.  We provide the children with a range of learning experiences, encompassing learning through discovery and experience, and moving on to more formal practising of key skills. The emphasis in Class 2 is on fun and a love of learning.  Visit our blog to find out more and register your email address to get updates direct to your inbox.

Topic Work

At Grindleford we have a Creative Curriculum and teach many subjects through Topic work.

Homework

It is imperative that the children read at home regularly as part of their weekly homework. It is recommended that they read to an adult for 10 minutes a day at least 4 times a week.  Adults can help by asking the children questions about the book and talking about the story to support understanding.  More fluent readers can be asked more detailed questions.  Please write in the child’s Reading Record so that they are able to swap their book in school. Children will be heard read in school once or twice a week depending on their fluency.  When the children are successfully reading independently they may not be heard read as often within school.

Homework is linked to Topic work, Science, Literacy or Maths to reinforce current learning. It is set on a Tuesday and can be handed in any time up to the following Tuesday. Homework set in Class 2 is an activity that should be done with the child to help their learning. The activities usually take about 20 minutes to half an hour.  If it is particularly tricky or onerous for your child, then don’t panic; please feel free to come and talk to me, or just encourage your child to hand in whatever they have been able to do and further work or support can be given. Occasionally, homework will not be set and we would like you to focus particularly on reading for that week.

Timetable Info

The timetable often changes from term to term, taking into account the specific needs of the children, scheduling of support staff, extra-curricular opportunities and whole school considerations.

  • PE is on Thursday
  • Homework is due in and given out every Friday

Curriculum

Due to the mixed-aged class, we follow a two-year cycle of teaching.  It is constantly under review and altered to suit the children, external factors, curriculum changes and other influences relevant to learning and enhancing opportunities.
