Topic Work

We study a variety of topics throughout the year and love it when children bring in related things from home to support their classroom experiences.   Have a look at our blog to see more information on our current topic.

Reading

It is imperative that the children read at home regularly as part of their weekly homework. It is recommended that they read to an adult for 10 minutes a day at least 4 times a week.  Adults can help by asking the children questions about the book and talking about the story to support understanding.  More fluent readers can be asked more detailed questions.  Please write in the child’s Reading Record so that they are able to swap their book in school. Children will be heard read in school twice a week.

Timetable Info

The timetable often changes from term to term, taking into account the specific needs of the children, scheduling of support staff, extra-curricular opportunities and whole school considerations. The latest timetable is displayed on the Class noticeboard. For the Spring term this is important in ensuring that children are prepared:

  • PE is on Thursdays
  • Forest Schools Sessions will be on Monday afternoons during Autumn 1 and Spring 4

Homework

Year 1 have spellings weekly and reading daily

Year 2 do the same as Year 1, but with an added topic-related piece of work weekly

Curriculum

Due to the mixed-aged class, we follow a two-year cycle of teaching.  It is constantly under review and altered to suit the children, external factors, curriculum changes and other influences relevant to learning and enhancing opportunities.
